Public holiday for Eid ul Mawlid 2026 has been declared for Tuesday, August 25, by the Federal Government to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad. Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo announced this on behalf of the Federal Government in the statement on Friday, August 21, signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
The declaration means Tuesday will be observed as a public holiday across Nigeria in connection with the Islamic celebration. The announcement also called Nigerians to use this occasion to reflect on values such as compassion, humility, service and peaceful coexistence
This holiday gives muslims a chance to take part in prayers, religious gatherings and other activities for the celebration.
The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday for workers to mark Eid ul Mawlid. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Interior, which is responsible for declaring federal public holidays in Nigeria.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, sent greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and abroad as they prepare for the celebration and urged them to use the holiday to reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
He urged all Nigerians, regardless of religious , to reflect on those values,and not see the celebration as something only for Muslims.
This announcement comes during Rabi’ul Awwal, the month in which Muslims commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad. The Sultan of Sokoto had earlier announced Friday, August 14, as the first day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1448 AH, following moon-sighting reports across Nigeria.
A Public holiday for Eid ul Mawlid 2026 ,This follows he Federal Government’s declaration by the Ministry of Interior, The holiday marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad and gives Muslim a chance for worship and reflection.
