On the nights of August 8 and 9, Russian drones hit several Ukrainian cities, killing two people in Kharkiv. At the same time, a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia’s Belgorod region killed three people, according to local officials.
A Russian attack destroyed four floors of a residential building in Kharkiv, one of Ukraine’s largest northeastern cities. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed two deaths, while regional governor Oleg Synegoubov reported 23 people injured. Photos released by Ukrainian authorities showed rescue teams working at the damaged site.
In Odesa, Russian strikes wounded eight people and damaged parts of the city’s power grid, port facilities, and homes, adding further pressure to already fragile infrastructure.

Another strike targeted energy facilities near a shopping center in Pavlohrad, in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Zelensky described the attack as severe, noting nine people were hurt, including four children. Online footage appeared to show fires in a commercial area, though it has not been independently verified.
The fighting also reached Russian territory. A Ukrainian drone strike on Belgorod killed three people and injured 25, including two young children. Acting regional governor Alexander Shuvaev said the attack caused fires that damaged vehicles, apartment blocks, and a house.
However, Both Russia and Ukraine are increasingly using drones and long‑range weapons to hit targets far from the front lines. Zelensky said Russia had fired 61 missiles of different types against Ukraine during the week, he calls for stronger sanctions on Moscow and more air defense support for Kyiv. He accused Russia of Using ballistic and long‑range strikes, while Ukraine continues drone operations inside Russian territory.
For more than four years after Russia’s full‑scale invasion, the Russia Ukraine drone attacks shows no sign of easing, with repeated strikes on cities, infrastructure, and military sites. The United Nations has reported rising civilian casualties throughout the year. As the fighting persists, long‑range weapons define the battlefield and civilians suffer the consequences.
