Saudi Arabia has announced the creation of a new maritime security alliance, bringing together 13 partner nations in other to safeguard the Bab el‑Mandeb Strait, one of the world’s most important shipping lanes. The coalition was formed after Yemen’s Houthi movement declared plans to block Saudi vessels and impose transit fees on cargo ships passing through the strait.
