Dolly Parton’s funeral plans have been revealed following her death at the age of 80. She passed away peacefully in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, August 25. Her family confirmed that she had requested a small and private funeral service attended only by immediate family members.  Rather than holding a large public funeral, the family said they would respect Parton’s wishes and keep her final farewell private.

 

Fans around the world have been encouraged to pay tribute online by tagging her on social media or leaving messages through her official website. The family also asked mourners not to send flowers but instead to make donations to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the literacy charity she founded that provides books to children.

In their announcement, the family described Parton as a global icon and humanitarian whose career extended across music, songwriting, acting, playwriting, publishing, and philanthropy. They remembered her for her wit, warmth, and kindness, saying her life and career inspired generations.

 

Parton’s death has prompted tributes from several major figures in the entertainment industry, including Reba McEntire, Dionne Warwick, Miley Cyrus, George Strait, and Kacey Musgraves.

 

Dolly Parton became one of the world’s most recognisable entertainers during a career that lasted seven decades. Songs including “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You” helped establish her as one of the most influential figures in country and popular music.

Beyond her music, she became known for her philanthropy, especially through the Imagination Library. Her family said her legacy would continue through the compassion and resilience she showed throughout her life.

Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, who worked as her head of security for more than twenty years, also shared an emotional message, describing the moment as one of both pride and sadness. Parton was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Carl Thomas Dean, who died in 2025, as well as her parents, Avie Lee Caroline Owens and Robert Lee Parton Sr.
