Before his death, Olu Jacobs’ health had been discussed publicly. His wife, Joke Silva, previously revealed that he had been living with dementia with Lewy bodies, which affected his public and professional activities.
The family also faced false reports about his death. In June 2024, his son confirmed that Jacobs was still alive after another death rumour spread online.
Olu Jacobs built his career across British television, theatre, international productions and Nigerian cinema. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before working in British television and international films. He later became a major figure in the Nigerian film industry.
Lufodo Group, which he co-founded with Joke Silva, says his career included stage, film and radio. He also appeared in hundreds of Nigerian films, becoming one of Nollywood’s most recognisable veterans.
Olu Jacobs received the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).Lufodo Group also lists several acting and lifetime achievement awards he received during his long career.
