The Burudi Nabwera requiem mass brought together political leaders, family members, and mourners at Friends Church in Lang’ata to honour his life and remember his achievements.
Nabwera was Kenya’s first ambassador to the United States and the United Nations. He also served as the first Member of Parliament for Lugari and held important positions in the Cabinet. He played a key role in shaping Kenya’s early diplomatic relations and government.
During the service, national leaders spoke about the 2027 general elections. They called for political tolerance, respect for different opinions, and unity among Kenyans as the country prepares for another election.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula urged politicians from different parties to act peacefully, respect opposing views, and help maintain peace in the country.
Reports also indicated that Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi left the service early after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna delivered a speech. The reported departure attracted attention amid the political discussions at the event.
Despite these political issues, members of the Nabwera family asked mourners to focus on celebrating the late diplomat’s life and achievements rather than engaging in partisan arguments.

Following the Burudi Nabwera requiem mass in Nairobi, preparations continued for Nabwera’s final funeral rites. The services will give local residents, former colleagues, and extended family members an opportunity to pay their last respects.
The final burial ceremony is scheduled for October 24 in Trans Nzoia County, where Nabwera will be laid to rest according to his family’s traditions.
