The growth of online delivery services has changed how people buy and receive goods in Nigerian cities. However, delivery workers also face many challenges. Recently, a video showing a Dispatch Rider Oversized Package Nigeria incident went viral, raising concerns about the problems riders face when customers give them packages that are bigger than expected.
Delivery riders deal with traffic, high fuel costs, and difficult customers every day. This incident highlights some of the challenges in Nigeria’s delivery industry, including rider safety, customer responsibility, and the rules used by delivery apps.
The problem began when a rider accepted a delivery request through a popular delivery app. Before going to collect the item, he asked the customer about the package size. According to reports, the customer told him the item was small and easy to carry on a motorcycle.

However, when the rider arrived at the pickup point, he found a large, heavy woven sack instead of a small package. The sack was too big for safe motorcycle transport and could affect the rider’s balance on the road. Carrying it could also put the rider and other road users at risk.
When the rider saw how large and heavy the package was, he asked the customer to cancel the order because it was unsafe to carry on his motorcycle. However, the customer reportedly refused to cooperate. The rider was also worried that cancelling the order could lead to a six-hour restriction on his account, stopping him from earning money during that time.
Because of this, the rider was left in a difficult situation during the Dispatch Rider Oversized Package Nigeria incident. He reportedly waited for more than two hours, unable to accept other delivery requests while trying to resolve the problem.

After waiting for more than two hours, the rider reportedly watched as the customer booked another delivery rider in front of him. This made the situation even more frustrating for the stranded worker.
When the story and videos spread online, many social media users showed support for the rider. They pointed out that dispatch riders in Nigeria face many challenges, including high fuel prices, traffic, road enforcement, and difficult customers. These problems can make their daily work stressful and affect their income.
