The Pakistan hospital fire killed 14 newborn infants at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad  after fire  broke out inside the hospital’s Mother and Child Health Ward on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. leaving  families devastated.

 

The fire broke out  in the early morning hours on the third floor of the maternity facility, where newborn babies were receiving medical care. According to pakistan authorities , 15 newborns were inside the nursery when the fire started. 14 imfact was killed  while one baby was rescured in the hospital.

After the tragedy, officials started  investigating what caused the fire ,how safe the hospital was , and how the  emergency team  responded, Sad parents are also want to know why their babies couldn’t all be saved.

Islamabad Chief Commissioner Sohail Ashraf said that the emergency call came in at about 6:54 a.m. local time.  six fire brigade units and four ambulances were  deployed to the hospital. Officals said the fire was brought under control and patients were moved to safety.

Jaweria, a grieving mother, cried for hours while calling for help. She questioned why doctors and nurses were not available to evacuate the infants during the Pakistan hospital fire and pleaded for justice. Her comments reflected the pain and frustration of several families who gathered at the hospital after the incident

Khurram Mehmood a father who lost his three-day-old  baby in the Pakistan hospital fire . told the AFP that the fire started in the morning. he and other families waited outside while officials worked to control the blaze

 

 

Eyewitnesses said there was  black smoke inside the nursery area. some people trying to help by breaking the windows because they couldn’t  get through the normal doors..One witness told AFP that he went into the  building  to rescue people but smoke and frames stopped him from reaching the ward .

 

 Some witnesses alleged that some doors were locked and people were prevented from leaving immediately. These claims have not been established as facts. Hospital Authorities and government officials have given different vision of the incident. An investigation will now determinie whether there were any failures in the evacuation procedures.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has odered an investigation into the hospital fire and promised action if negligence is   proven,
