The Bodija Explosion Compensation Dispute has resurfaced in Oyo State as victims and affected residents say they are yet to receive additional compensation following revelations about federal relief funds.
Residents who lost property in the January 16, 2024 explosion at Dejo Oyelese area of Bodija, Ibadan, have expressed concerns over the handling of funds reportedly released by the Federal Government to support victims.
The renewed agitation comes after disclosure that N30 billion was released to the Oyo State Government on account of the incident, with an additional N20 billion reportedly pending to complete a total of N50 billion approved for relief.
Controversy Over N30 Billion Federal Relief Fund
The Bodija Explosion Compensation Dispute gained momentum after conflicting claims emerged regarding the actual amount released by the Federal Government.
Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, publicly stated that N50 billion had been released to support victims of the explosion.
However, the Oyo State Government clarified that only N30 billion had been received so far. According to the state authorities, the money remains intact in a bank account while awaiting the release of the remaining N20 billion.

Now, with confirmation that N30 billion has been released, residents are requesting a review of the earlier compensation payments.
According to Bamgbose, the association has formally written to the state government requesting a meeting to discuss the possibility of paying additional compensation from the N30 billion already received.
Appeal to Governor Seyi Makinde
The residents have appealed directly to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, urging him not to return the N30 billion to the Federal Government.
Instead, they are asking that the funds be used to provide further relief to individuals whose properties were destroyed or severely damaged.
Bamgbose acknowledged the support already given by the government but emphasized that those whose compensation was drastically reduced should now be positively reconsidered in light of the available funds.
