An alarming incident involving Mercedes trim theft in Lekki traffic has raised fresh concerns about the safety of motorists in Lagos. During the evening rush hour, thieves reportedly targeted a Mercedes SUV that was stuck in slow-moving traffic in the Lekki area.
The thieves reportedly removed the exterior chrome trim near the vehicle’s rear door before escaping. The driver was still stuck in traffic when the theft happened.
Photos and videos of the incident were later shared online, showing the vehicle with part of its trim removed. People in nearby vehicles recorded the aftermath around an area with ongoing road construction, highlighting the security concerns that can arise when traffic comes to a standstill.
Following public concerns about vehicle theft and attacks in traffic, Lagos authorities have said they are working to improve security in busy areas.

Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and senior police officials have previously said more security officers would be deployed to areas considered high-risk. Police have also carried out operations that led to the arrest of suspected traffic robbers and extortionists. However, some residents believe these efforts need to be carried out more regularly to improve safety.
Police continue to advise motorists to stay alert, especially at night, following the Mercedes trim theft in Lekki traffic. Drivers are encouraged to keep their windows closed, lock their doors, and avoid displaying valuable items while stuck in traffic.
