The La Pleasure Beach Accra demolition dispute escalated on October 2, 2026, after heavy machines began demolishing businesses along the coastline. Local vendors, business owners, and venue operators protested the demolition, saying they were given only 24 hours to leave.

The affected business owners said the land belongs to traditional Ga landowners and that a court case over the land is still ongoing.

Despite the court case, the demolition continued. Videos showed large structures being pulled down near the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, increasing concerns about the management of Accra’s coastal areas.

The operators rejected the notice and said there is an ongoing court case over ownership of the land. Representatives of the vendors said traditional Ga authorities claim ownership of the beachfront, making the eviction a legal matter that is still being disputed.
