Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that an Israeli airstrike has killed seven people and left three injured in southern Lebanon, despite a ceasefire agreement that’s been in place for two months . The strike hit a house near Ansar in the Nabatieh district on early Saturday, destroying the building completely. Emergency crews rushed to the scene to clear rubble, search for survivors and recover the bodies while the wounded were taken to nearby hospitals.
Local media described the attack as the deepest strike inside Lebanese territory since the ceasefire began. Reports also said that Israeli warplanes carried out another strikes on Ali al‑Taher hill near Nabatieh al‑Fawqa, raising fears that military activity is still ongoing despite the agreement.
Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon
The ceasefire agreement signed on June 26 under U.S. sponsorship, was meant to reduce border clashes and prepare for Israel’s withdrawal from occupied areas. It also called for Lebanese army forces to deploy in affected regions and armed groups like Hezbollah to disarm.
But Lebanese authorities says Israel still holds parts of southern Lebanon, some occupied for decades and others seized during the 2023–2024 conflict.
Since March 2024, Lebanon authorities reported that Israel’s military campaign has killed more than 4,300 people and injured over 12,000. This latest strike has only added to doubts about whether the ceasefire can hold and whether the June agreement will actually reduce tensions.
Rescue operations continue in Nabatieh, but the strike has renewed fears of escalation and cast fresh uncertainty over the future of the ceasefire.
For now rescue teams continue their work in Nabatieh, but the bigger question is whether the ceasefire agreement still holds or if the region is heading back toward another round of full-scale war.
