The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has urged the UN Security Council to take urgent action on Palestine’s admission as a full member of the United Nations. The group also called for stronger enforcement of international law amid ongoing tensions in the region.
The appeal came during a Security Council session in Canada, where Türkiye’s UN envoy delivered a statement on behalf of the OIC.

Ceasefire Described as Fragile
The OIC said the ceasefire agreement reached in October 2025 marked a key step toward reducing violence. However, it warned that the agreement remains fragile.
The group said continued attacks and limits on humanitarian access risk undermining the ceasefire. It also raised concerns about restrictions affecting UN agencies and aid organizations operating in Palestinian areas.
Concerns Over Israeli Actions
The OIC accused Israel of continued violations in Gaza and the West Bank. It also cited actions affecting holy sites in Jerusalem. According to the group, these developments complicate efforts to maintain calm and implement the ceasefire fully.
Support for Political and Humanitarian Steps
The OIC welcomed international efforts to sustain the ceasefire. It also supported the planned second phase of the agreement and the creation of a temporary Palestinian body to manage civilian affairs in Gaza.
The group stressed the need for coordinated humanitarian aid. It highlighted the role of UN agencies, including UNRWA, in delivering assistance.
Broader Regional Concerns
Beyond Palestine, the OIC raised concerns over Israeli actions in Syria and Lebanon. It called for respect for existing ceasefire arrangements and international resolutions.
Call for Unified International Response
The OIC urged the Security Council to act with unity and urgency. It said full UN membership for Palestine is essential for lasting peace and for maintaining the credibility of the international system.
