Police Arrest Suspects for Theft, Robbery, and Thuggery in Niger State

The Niger State Police Command has arrested multiple suspects for theft, robbery, thuggery, and drug-related crimes in Minna. Police say these operations aim to reduce crime across the state.


Suspect Arrested for Shop Theft

Officers from Chanchaga Division arrested Aliyu Mohammed of Chanchaga. He allegedly stole a lister engine, a drum, and other items worth over one million naira from a shop near a mosque.

During questioning, Aliyu confessed and led police to Ibrahim Mu’azu of Sabon-Titi, who had bought the stolen items. Police recovered the lister engine. Both men have been charged to court.


Motorcycle Robbery in Bosso

On January 12, 2026, police arrested Idris Yahaya, 36, from Darulsalam in Bosso. He reportedly robbed a student of an Infinix phone valued at over ₦170,000.

Yahaya pretended to be a soldier and took the victim to a quiet area in Bosso Estate. Community members caught him after the victim raised an alarm. He is now facing court charges.


Attack on Vigilante Operative

Four suspects attacked a vigilante operative in Kpakungu on December 24, 2025. They disarmed him of a locally made gun and a cutlass and threatened him to stop arresting their associates.

The police arrested Usman Mohammed, Shuaibu Shehu, Husseini Umar, and Abdullahi Mohammed, all from Kpakungu. They recovered weapons and suspected cannabis. One suspect remains at large. The case is now with the Anti-Thuggery Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department.


Raids Lead to More Arrests

Between December 23 and 27, 2025, police raided several locations in Minna. They arrested ten suspects from Alagbado, Tudun-Natsira, Angwan-Daji, Abdulsalam Quarters, and New Market. Officers recovered cutlasses and suspected cannabis. All suspects have been charged to court.

Additionally, operations on January 17 and 18, 2026, led to more arrests in Kwangila, Kasuwan-Gwari, Sabon-Gari, and Abdulsalam areas. Police recovered knives, suspected cannabis, illicit chemicals, and a locally made dane gun.


Police Assure Residents

The Niger State Police Command reassured residents that it will continue protecting lives and property. Officials urged the public to provide timely information to help investigations.
