Senate President Godswill Akpabio has explained how a political disagreement led to a major diplomatic appointment. He said he contacted former Senator Ita Enang, who had often criticised his leadership and political decisions. Akpabio asked Enang to stop attacking Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno. Their discussion later contributed to Enang’s appointment to represent Nigeria abroad.
The Akpabio Enang Germany ambassador story highlights the long-standing political disagreement in Akwa Ibom State, where former Senator Ita Enang had often criticised the state’s leadership.
According to Akpabio, he decided to settle the disagreement instead of making it worse. He called Enang and asked him to stop publicly criticising Governor Umo Eno. He also encouraged Enang to focus on contributing to the country’s development.

During the Akpabio Enang Germany ambassador discussion, Enang reportedly asked Akpabio to help him find something to do. Akpabio later helped arrange discussions that led President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to nominate Enang as Nigeria’s non-career ambassador to Germany.
After the Senate confirmed his appointment, Enang arrived in Berlin in June 2026 to begin his diplomatic duties.
Since taking up the position, the former senator has focused on strengthening relations between Nigeria and Germany. His work includes promoting trade, technology partnerships and foreign investment between the two countries.

Enang has also publicly thanked President Tinubu and Senate President Akpabio for giving him the opportunity to represent Nigeria abroad.
The development has attracted reactions on social media and among political observers. While some see it as an example of political reconciliation, others have continued to discuss how former political rivals can work together after disagreements.
