Israel and Iran reportedly exchanged assurances through Russia that neither side would launch a preemptive military attack before protests erupted across Iran. The information was reported by The Washington Post, citing diplomats and regional officials familiar with the communication.
According to the report, Iranian officials reacted positively to Israel’s outreach. However, they remained cautious and questioned Israel’s broader intentions during the exchange.
Protests in Iran Escalate Tensions
The reported communication took place before widespread protests began in Iran. Demonstrations initially focused on economic hardship but later expanded into broader opposition against the government.
Protesters voiced concerns over rising inflation, water shortages, governance issues, and human rights conditions. Iranian authorities responded with force, leading to a significant number of casualties. Some estimates suggest that thousands of protesters were killed during the crackdown.
