The Remi Tinubu Warri Kingdom title ceremony drew dignitaries and community leaders on Thursday as Nigeria First Lady Oluremi Tinubu was conferred with the traditional title of Utukpa-Oritse by the revered monarch of Warri Kingdom.

The colourful event took place in Warri, Delta State, where the First Lady was received by Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri Kingdom.

Meaning Behind the Remi Tinubu Warri Kingdom Title

The Remi Tinubu Warri Kingdom title of Utukpa-Oritse, also known as Ugbone meaning Light of God, recognises her public service record and humanitarian efforts.

According to an official statement released by her media office, the honour reflects the kingdom’s acknowledgement of her contributions to women empowerment and social welfare initiatives across Nigeria.

Senator Tinubu, whose maternal roots trace to Warri, described the honour as symbolic and deeply meaningful.

She stated that the recognition reaffirmed her commitment to serving Nigerians regardless of background or status.


First Lady Calls for National Unity

During the ceremony, the First Lady emphasised national unity and social cohesion, urging Nigerians to look beyond ethnic, religious, and political differences.

Quoting Psalm 133 verses 1 to 3, she highlighted the importance of peaceful coexistence and collective progress.

The Remi Tinubu Warri Kingdom title event also provided an opportunity for her to commend the Delta State government for its development efforts.

Present at the event was Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who praised her consistency and engagement with the state.

Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other dignitaries were also in attendance.

₦50 Million Support for Women Traders

As part of activities surrounding the Remi Tinubu Warri Kingdom title ceremony, the First Lady donated ₦50 million through her Renewed Hope Initiative.

The fund is expected to support 1,000 women petty traders within the kingdom.

Governor Oborevwori described her as compassionate and consistent, noting that she had visited Delta State three times in recent engagements.

He commended her women empowerment drive and referenced her involvement in initiatives such as the Free to Shine campaign.


Monarch Praises First Lady’s Example

In his remarks, Ogiame Atuwatse III said the kingdom was proud of the First Lady and encouraged citizens to embrace peace and development.

He urged residents to let go of past grievances and work together for progress.

The monarch praised her as a role model for women and young girls, highlighting her commitment to family values and national service.

The Remi Tinubu Warri Kingdom title honour adds to a growing list of recognitions she has received across Nigeria.


Other Traditional Titles Received

In December 2025, she received the title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua from the Ooni of Ife.

She was also named Iya Oba of Ikorodu in August 2025, Sarauniyar Yaki by the Akko Emirate in October 2025, and Ugosimba 1 of Enugu in June 2025.

Nationally, she holds the honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger CON.

Internationally, she was recently praised by former United States President Donald Trump during the National Prayer Breakfast in February 2026, where he described her as a respected leader and ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God.


Growing Recognition for Tinubu Family

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu also received a traditional title in May 2025.

The Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council conferred on him the title Dike Si Mba Anambra, meaning Mighty Warrior, in recognition of his leadership.
