The 2026 Emmy Awards winners included The Pitt, Widow’s Bay and several top television stars. The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards took place in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14, 2026. The ceremony honoured actors, writers, directors and television shows across drama, comedy, limited series and variety categories.
The ceremony was held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and hosted by Mariska Hargitay. Many of the biggest names in television attended the event for the final night of the 78th Emmy Awards.
The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series, while Noah Wyle won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role in the medical drama.
Widow’s Bay also had a successful night. The Apple TV comedy won Outstanding Comedy Series, while Matthew Rhys won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. The Television Academy said the show set a record for the most Emmy wins by a comedy series in one year.

Noah Wyle won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for The Pitt. He competed against Sterling K. Brown for Paradise, Gary Oldman for Slow Horses, Mark Ruffalo for Task and Rufus Sewell for The Diplomat.
Rhea Seehorn wins Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Rhea Seehorn won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Pluribus. She competed against Carrie Coon for The Gilded Age, Chase Infiniti for The Testaments, Keri Russell for The Diplomat and Zendaya for Euphoria.
Widow’s Bay leads the comedy winners
The Apple TV series won Outstanding Comedy Series. It defeated Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building and Shrinking..
Matthew Rhys wins two major acting awards
He won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Widow’s Bay. He also won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for The Beast in Me. His two wins made him one of the most notable performers at the 2026 Emmy Awards.
Jean Smart won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks. She competed against Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary, Ayo Edebiri for The Bear, Elle Fanning for Margo’s Got Money Troubles and Lisa Kudrow for The Comeback.
DTF St. Louis wins Limited or Anthology Series
DTF St. Louis won Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. The HBO Max series defeated All Her Fault, The Beast in Me, Beef and Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.
Sally Field wins Lead Actress in a Limited Series
Sally Field won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series for Remarkably Bright Creatures.
She defeated Claire Danes for The Beast in Me, Carey Mulligan for Beef, Sarah Pidgeon for Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, and Sarah Snook for All Her Fault.
Matthew Rhys wins Lead Actor in a Limited Series
Matthew Rhys also won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for The Beast in Me.
The other nominees were Riz Ahmed for Bait, Jason Bateman for Black Rabbit, Charlie Hunnam for Monster: The Ed Gein Story and Oscar Isaac for Beef.

Stephen Root won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Widow’s Bay. Kate O’Flynn also won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Widow’s Bay.
