A Federal High Court in Abuja has delivered a major ruling on the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Imo West Senatorial District. Justice Obiora Egwuatu ruled that Governor Hope Uzodinma did not win the party’s primary election held on May 18. The judge also ruled that former governor Rochas Okorocha received the majority of votes and should be recognised as the party’s candidate for the January 16, 2027 election.
The Okorocha APC candidate Imo West ruling came after Justice Egwuatu said the evidence showed that Uzodinma did not win the APC primary election monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The court ordered him to stop presenting himself as the party’s candidate for the district.

The court also directed the APC to submit Okorocha’s name to INEC, supporting the Okorocha APC candidate Imo West ruling. INEC was ordered to update its records and publish his name ahead of the election.

The dispute began after different groups within the party made conflicting claims about the primary election results. Okorocha’s supporters challenged the results, arguing that the vote counts showed he had won. They approached the court to seek a review, claiming that changes to the results could undermine fairness and violate electoral rules.
