Mohammed Siraj Replaces Injured Harshit Rana in India’s T20 World Cup Squad
India has named senior fast bowler Mohammed Siraj as the replacement for Harshit Rana, who has been ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 due to a knee injury sustained during a warm-up match.
The injury occurred in India’s pre-tournament warm-up against South Africa in Navi Mumbai on February 4, 2026. After consultation with specialists and medical scans, the BCCI medical team declared Rana unfit for the tournament.
“Team India pacer Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after sustaining a knee injury during the warm-up match. The team management wishes him a speedy recovery. Mohammed Siraj will join the squad as his replacement,” the BCCI said in an official statement.
Pre-Tournament Concerns
Earlier, India’s Suryakumar Yadav hinted that Rana’s recovery was uncertain ahead of India’s opening match against the USA.
“Harshit Rana has not been ruled out yet. The physios are assessing him, but he does not look good,” Suryakumar said during a pre-match press conference.
Despite the setback, the Indian captain reassured fans about the team’s readiness:
“We have 11 players for tomorrow, but losing a squad member is always a blow. If he is unavailable, we will adjust combinations. We have enough players and options for all teams.”
Harshit Rana’s Warm-Up Performance
Rana managed to bowl only one over in the warm-up against South Africa, conceding 16 runs before leaving the field due to injury. While not a guaranteed starter, his presence offered flexibility in both bowling and the lower batting order.
