Peter Obi responded by reacting to the UN report on the hunger crisis in Northern part of Nigeria through a statement he sahred on his official X account, stating that the situation is very alerming and also calling on the attention of the humanitarian emergency.

According to the presidential candidate, Peter Obi, roughly about more than 10,000 residents of Borno state are under serirous hunger conditions to emphasies on the seriousness of the crisis

Peter Obi described the situation as very a troubling situation, arguing for a stronger leadership, improving security, and greater investment in agriculture for the hunger situtaion to be eliminated. as he wrote on his X account
He quoted “I am deeply troubled by the latest report from the UN’s World Food Programme, indicating that northern Nigeria is experiencing its most severe hunger crisis in nearly a decade. Over 17 million people in nine northern states face crisis-level hunger, with more than 35 million Nigerians nationwide at risk during this challenging season.
More than 17 million people living across the conflict affected 9 states in the Nortern part of the Nigeria are currently under the serious level of hunger crisies and emergency
WFP also stated that the figure shows an increase of nearly two million people compared to the earlier projections. this also reflects that there is a deteriorating humanitarian situation in the region.
The report warned that:
- More than 35 million Nigerians could face food insecurity.
- Thousands of vulnerable households will continue to require emergency food assistance
- Aid delivery might be limited due to the shortage of funding faced by the Humanitarian operations
