Jharkhand witchcraft killing has once again drawn attention to the deadly consequences of superstition in rural India after a woman and her 10-month-old son were allegedly burned alive by a mob.

His wife, Jano Birua, said she sought help from an informal healthcare provider when her husband began suffering from anxiety and fainting spells.
In many remote communities, access to qualified medical professionals is limited. As a result, villagers often rely on untrained practitioners. After consulting such a provider, rumors began circulating that Jyoti Sinku was responsible for the illness through alleged witchcraft.
Pustun Birua died on Tuesday evening. Later that same night, a mob reportedly stormed the Sinku family’s home.
Husband Recounts the Attack
Speaking from his hospital bed, Kolhan Sinku described the horrific events. He said around a dozen people, including five women, entered their house and set his wife and child on fire.
He stated that he pleaded with the attackers to resolve the matter through the village council. However, his appeals were ignored.
Police registered the case based on statements from Kolhan Sinku and another family member.
