Apple is preparing a major upgrade to Siri that could change how iPhone users interact with artificial intelligence. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple plans to turn Siri into a full conversational chatbot that can compete directly with tools like ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
The move comes as Apple works to strengthen its position in the fast-moving AI space. Many users and analysts felt Apple Intelligence failed to impress when it launched. Now, Apple appears ready to respond with a smarter, more capable Siri.
Apple’s New Siri Chatbot: What We Know So Far
The upcoming chatbot is internally known as “Campos.” Apple plans to release it before the end of the year. Campos will allow users to complete complex tasks using both voice and text, similar to how ChatGPT and Gemini work today.
Unlike existing AI assistants, Campos will deeply integrate with Apple’s ecosystem. It will work across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, making it easier for users to search, summarize, create content, and manage files.
Apple also wants this chatbot to reduce its long-term reliance on Google. While Campos will initially use a Google-based AI model, Apple plans to make the system flexible enough to switch models in the future.
Siri Chatbot Coming With iOS 27

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple will roll out the new Siri chatbot as part of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. Apple may preview the feature at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, with a public release expected in September.
This chatbot will not replace the Siri update coming in iOS 26.4. Instead, it will arrive as a later and more advanced upgrade. The goal is to move Siri beyond simple commands and turn it into a true AI assistant.
Smarter, More Personal, and More Aware
One of Campos’ standout features is its ability to understand what appears on a user’s screen. For example, if a webpage or document is open, the chatbot can suggest actions or provide relevant information.
Campos will also access personal data, with user permission, to complete tasks such as:
-
Finding files
-
Summarizing emails or messages
-
Creating playlists
-
Organizing photos
-
Launching apps and changing settings
The chatbot will integrate with Apple apps like Photos, Music, and Files, making daily tasks faster and more intuitive.
Powered by Apple Foundation Models
The new Siri chatbot will run on Apple Foundation Models version 11, a custom AI system developed in partnership with Google. Meanwhile, the Siri update in iOS 26.4 will use version 10 of Apple’s models.
Apple plans to keep the system flexible. This design allows Apple to swap AI models later if it decides to move away from Google entirely.
Why Apple Is Making This Move
Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed last year that Siri would receive a major AI upgrade. However, reports suggest even Apple engineers worry that incremental updates may not meet user expectations.
At the same time, AI competitors continue to advance rapidly. ChatGPT, Gemini, and other tools now dominate everyday AI use. Apple’s new chatbot appears to be a direct response to that growing competition.
By transforming Siri into a full chatbot, Apple hopes to close the gap and deliver an AI experience that feels uniquely Apple.
What This Means for iPhone Users
If successful, Campos could redefine how users interact with their devices. Instead of issuing short commands, users may soon have natural conversations with Siri to complete complex tasks.
This change could make iPhones more productive, more personal, and more competitive in the AI era.
