Solomon Buchi Criticizes Peller and Egungun Over IShowSpeed Lagos Visit

Solomon Buchi has reacted to a viral clip featuring Egungun of Lagos and American streamer IShowSpeed during the latter’s recent visit to Nigeria. Buchi questioned Egungun’s ability to conduct an intellectually engaging interview.

In the clip, Egungun introduced himself to IShowSpeed as Africa’s most popular lifestyle interviewer and congratulated him on reaching “50,000” subscribers—a statement Speed quickly corrected to “50 million.” The conversation then shifted from meaningful questions about Speed’s journey into streaming to playful barking sounds.

Buchi expressed frustration over Egungun’s interview style, noting that it often revolves around women, cosmetic enhancements, and his catchphrase “that’s massive.” While these traits earned him fame, Buchi argued they do not demonstrate conversational depth or intellectual engagement.

He also voiced concern about other clips from Speed’s time in Nigeria. Buchi criticized what he described as “culturally normalized begging” and the tendency of Nigerian celebrities to chase clout by associating with high-profile visitors like Speed.

Buchi argued that Speed is more interested in interacting with everyday people than with “fake personas, clout chasers, or classist Nigerian celebrities.” He noted that such behavior reflects poorly on Nigerians in public spaces.

Another clip that drew Buchi’s attention showed streamer Peller chasing Speed on horseback, shouting, “I am a streamer! I’m big. I know, but please let’s do something! I have suffered because of you!” Buchi criticized Peller’s approach, stating that as a well-known streamer, he should have contacted Speed professionally before his visit or had his team handle outreach.

Buchi also highlighted the embarrassment of seeing grown men—husbands, fathers, and boyfriends—crowding around Speed in undignified ways. His main concern, he said, is the global perception being shaped by these livestreams.

“What is the world seeing about Nigerian people from Speed’s livestream?” Buchi asked, stressing the potential impact on Nigeria’s international image.
