South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned the reported capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife by the United States. He described the action as a serious violation of international law.

In a statement shared on his official X page on Tuesday, Ramaphosa said South Africa stands firmly with the people of Venezuela. He stressed that the country rejects actions that threaten national sovereignty.

According to Ramaphosa, respect for international law and the United Nations Charter guides South Africa’s position. Therefore, he said the reported US action undermines Venezuela’s territorial integrity as a United Nations member state.

“We reject utterly the actions embarked upon by the United States and stand with the people of Venezuela,” the South African leader stated.

Furthermore, Ramaphosa warned that such actions could set a dangerous global precedent. He noted that powerful nations must not bypass international institutions when addressing political disputes.

As a result, the South African president called on the United Nations Security Council to act swiftly. He urged the body to fulfil its mandate by promoting peace, stability, and respect for sovereignty.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has also raised concerns over the incident. The global body reportedly described the US operation as a troubling development that could weaken international norms.

In recent years, tensions between the United States and Venezuela have remained high. However, analysts say direct actions against sitting leaders risk escalating diplomatic conflicts.

Ramaphosa’s response adds to growing international reactions. Many countries are now calling for dialogue rather than force.

Ultimately, South Africa reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful conflict resolution. The government said global stability depends on respect for international law and cooperation among nations.
