A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has strongly dismissed claims by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai that the ruling party could lose power in the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai made the assertion on Thursday while speaking at the 23rd edition of the Daily Trust Dialogue, where he suggested that internal challenges and public dissatisfaction could threaten the APC’s hold on power after President Bola Tinubu’s first term.
Igbokwe Rejects El-Rufai’s Claim
In response, Igbokwe took to his official Facebook page to counter El-Rufai’s remarks. He described the prediction as unrealistic and disconnected from political realities on the ground. According to him, the political strength, leadership record, and experience of President Bola Tinubu make a loss in 2027 highly unlikely.
Igbokwe argued that Tinubu’s governance approach and long-standing political influence give him a solid advantage ahead of the next election.
Ten Reasons Tinubu Will Be Re-Elected
In his post, Igbokwe outlined ten reasons he believes President Tinubu will secure re-election:
-
Unmatched Reform Drive
He said Tinubu is addressing Nigeria’s long-standing problems in ways never seen before, particularly in economic restructuring and institutional reforms. -
Deep Understanding of Governance
According to Igbokwe, the president possesses rare insight into Nigeria’s political and economic systems, which positions him to implement lasting solutions. -
Wide National Impact
He claimed Tinubu has positively affected more lives across Nigeria than any other living or past Nigerian leader. -
Strong Intellectual Capacity
Igbokwe described Tinubu as highly educated, cerebral, and skilled in financial management, calling him the best “bean counter” among leaders of the past three decades. -
Long-Term Preparation for Leadership
He emphasized that Tinubu prepared for the presidency for over 20 years, unlike many past leaders who assumed office without clear plans. -
Legacy of Infrastructure Development
Tinubu’s role in building major infrastructure projects, especially during his tenure as Lagos State governor, was cited as evidence of his developmental mindset. -
Institution Builder
Igbokwe noted that Tinubu established key agencies and departments in Lagos State that later became models for other states across Nigeria. -
Financial Expertise
He described the president as a financial expert whose experience spans decades in both public service and economic planning. -
Reputation for Generosity and Mercy
According to Igbokwe, Tinubu is known for helping people and showing compassion, traits he said resonate strongly with voters. -
Leader of Leaders
He concluded that Tinubu has mentored and empowered more political leaders than anyone else in Nigeria’s history, which gives him unmatched political reach.
APC Internal Debate Intensifies
The exchange between El-Rufai and Igbokwe highlights growing internal debate within the APC over the party’s future direction. While some party figures express concern about public perception and governance challenges, others remain confident that Tinubu’s leadership will secure another mandate.
As political alignments begin to take shape ahead of 2027, differing opinions within the ruling party are likely to continue surfacing.
