A woman who held another woman captive for 25 years refused to apologise after being convicted at court.

Amanda Wixon, 56, kept a vulnerable teenage girl as a slave inside her Gloucestershire home for more than two decades. Outside court, she showed no remorse. When asked what she wanted to say to her victim, she replied with just three words: “Not a lot.”

Years of Abuse and Control

Wixon took the victim into her home in 1995, when the girl was only 16 years old. The victim, who has learning difficulties, was the daughter of one of Wixon’s friends. She never left the house again until 2021.

During those 25 years, Wixon controlled every part of the woman’s life. She denied her food. She stopped her from leaving the house. She forced her to wash secretly at night.

Prosecutors told Gloucester Crown Court that Wixon regularly beat the woman. She struck her with a broom handle. She squirted washing-up liquid into her mouth. She also splashed bleach on her face.

The victim lived in fear throughout her captivity.

Living Conditions Described as “Dickensian”

Police described the home as overcrowded and filthy. The house had mould on the walls. Plaster peeled from ceilings. Rubbish filled the garden.

Officers said the victim’s bedroom looked like a “prison cell.”

Judge Ian Lawrie KC said the case had a “Dickensian quality.” He said the woman had escaped one dysfunctional family only to suffer years of cruelty in another.

The victim told police she felt unsafe and trapped.

“I don’t want to be here. Mandy hits me all the time. I haven’t washed for years. She doesn’t let me,” she said.

Jury Conviction and Charges

A jury found Wixon guilty of six serious offences, including:

  • False imprisonment

  • Forced and compulsory labour

  • Multiple assaults causing bodily harm

The jury cleared her of one assault charge but convicted her on the rest.

Prosecutor Sam Jones said the woman endured violence, threats, and hunger for years.

“She was kept inside. She was assaulted many times. She was forced to work and denied basic care,” he said.

No Apology Outside Court

After the verdict, Wixon spoke to reporters while lighting a cigarette. She denied the crimes.

When asked if she was sorry, she said: “No. I never done it.”

Asked if she was a “monster,” she replied: “Say what you think.”

When told she could face up to 10 years in prison, she responded angrily and said she already knew.

Wixon remains on conditional bail and will be sentenced on March 12.

Social Services Failures Revealed

The court heard that social services had contact with the family in the late 1990s. However, records showed no follow-up for over 20 years.

The victim had no medical or dental records. She had not seen a doctor in two decades.

Prosecutors said these failures allowed the abuse to continue unchecked.

Defence Claims Rejected

Wixon’s lawyer claimed the case was exaggerated. He argued the household suffered from neglect, not deliberate abuse.

The jury rejected this argument.
