A senior Russian military official is in hospital after an attacker shot him several times in Moscow in what appears to be an assassination attempt.
Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, a top intelligence officer, came under attack inside an apartment building in the Russian capital on Friday. The shooting adds to a growing number of attacks on senior Russian officers since the Ukraine war began.

Russia’s Investigative Committee said an unknown person opened fire on Alekseyev and then escaped.
