Russia Condemns Killing of Muammar Gaddafi Son in Libya
Russia has condemned the killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. The incident occurred in western Libya and has drawn international attention.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the killing is a serious crime. Therefore, Russia has called for a full and transparent investigation without delay.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the authorities must identify and punish those behind the attack. She added that justice is necessary to prevent further violence. In addition, Russia expressed condolences to the family and associates of the deceased.
Killing Reported in Zintan
Libyan officials confirmed that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, aged 53, was killed on Tuesday in the city of Zintan.
Meanwhile, Libyan media reported that four masked men carried out the attack. They allegedly disabled CCTV cameras at his residence before the shooting. As a result, questions have emerged about security lapses and planning.
Renewed Calls for Stability in Libya
Moussa Ibrahim, a former spokesman of the Gaddafi government, described the killing as a betrayal. He said Saif al-Islam supported a united and sovereign Libya.
Moreover, Ibrahim said he spoke with him two days before the incident. At the time, his main concern was Libya’s stability and the safety of its people.
