Liam Rosenior has confirmed a verbal agreement to become Chelsea’s new manager. An official announcement is expected soon.
The 41 year old coach is set to replace Enzo Maresca, who left the club on New Year’s Day. Rosenior shared the update while speaking to the media during his final hours as Strasbourg manager.
Rosenior Confirms Chelsea Move
According to Rosenior, all major terms have been agreed verbally. He said the deal should be completed within a few hours.
The former defender described the chance to manage Chelsea as one he could not turn down. He pointed to the quality of the squad and the club’s recent success at the Club World Cup.
Rosenior added that he spoke publicly out of respect for Strasbourg. He wanted to address supporters before officially leaving the club.
Coaching Staff to Follow
Several members of Rosenior’s Strasbourg staff will join him at Chelsea. These include first team coach Kalifa Cisse, assistant coach Justin Walker, and head of analysis Ben Warner.
Both clubs are owned by the BlueCo group. The ownership is led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
Impact at Strasbourg
Rosenior took charge of Strasbourg in July 2024. He led the club to seventh place in Ligue 1 last season. That finish secured European football for the first time in eight years.
His final match ended in a 1 1 draw away to Nice. Despite recent struggles in the league, Strasbourg remain seventh and top of their Conference League group.
He described his time in France as the best period of his career. Rosenior said he will always feel a strong connection to the club.
Premier League Test Ahead
Rosenior has not managed in the Premier League before. However, he brings experience from the Championship with Derby County and Hull City.
He said he would not accept the role unless he felt ready. Rosenior also revealed that several clubs had shown interest in him.
Chelsea sit fifth in the Premier League ahead of their match against Fulham. Caretaker manager Calum McFarlane oversaw a 1 1 draw with Manchester City in the last game.
