Court Rejects Bail Application

A State High Court in Ota, Ogun State, has denied bail to Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable.

The court took this decision during the singer’s arraignment on multiple criminal charges. The judge ruled that the bail request could not proceed without key witnesses present in court.

Charges Filed Against the Singer

The prosecution charged Portable with nine offences. These include assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest.

The case relates to an incident that allegedly happened on New Year’s Day. The incident took place at Portable’s bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ogun State.

Judge Explains Bail Decision

The presiding judge refused to grant bail due to the absence of the police officer involved in the case.

The court stated that it must hear directly from the officer before making a decision on bail. The judge then ordered that Portable remain in custody.

Next Court Date Set

The court remanded Portable and fixed January 19 for a fresh hearing on the bail application.

Until then, the singer will remain in custody.

Police Provide Background Details

The Ogun State Police Command linked the case to a complaint filed by Portable’s estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.

Police officers arrested the singer after investigating allegations from the New Year’s Day incident.

Allegations From the Prosecution

Prosecutors told the court that Portable assaulted Ashabi Simple and other individuals at the scene.

They also accused him of attacking police officers who responded to the incident.

The prosecution further alleged that the singer stole a Mercedes Benz E300 worth about twelve million naira. The vehicle reportedly belongs to a complainant, Ileyemi Damilola, and was registered under a car dealer identified as Wally Dex Auto.

Witnesses Testify in Court

Two siblings of Ashabi Simple appeared as prosecution witnesses. They shared details of the alleged assault.

Ashabi Simple did not appear in court during the hearing.

Alleged Assault on Police Officer

Police also accused Portable of obstructing and assaulting a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi.

Authorities said the incident occurred while the officer was performing her official duties.

The court has adjourned the case and will continue proceedings at the next hearing.
