Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have killed three bandits and arrested a suspected logistics supplier during coordinated patrols and ambush operations in parts of Kabba Bunu and Yagba West Local Government Areas of Kogi State.
The operations took place on January 3, 2026, following credible intelligence regarding bandit movements from the Adankolo area towards Agbadu Bunu in Kabba Bunu LGA.
Ambush in Kabba Bunu
According to a statement from Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, troops quickly deployed to an identified crossing point and laid an ambush.
“The bandits ran into the ambush and were engaged. Blood stains were observed, indicating casualties,” the statement said.
During the encounter, soldiers neutralized two bandits and recovered:

One AK-47 rifle

One magazine

Ninety-nine rounds of 7.62mm ammunition

One locally fabricated gun

Eleven cartridges
Patrols in Yagba West
Intelligence later revealed bandit movements near Saminaka village. In response, troops, supported by local vigilantes, conducted a fighting patrol in the village and surrounding forest areas.
Troops encountered bandits who withdrew through the forest. During follow-up, the army discovered:

Arrest of Suspected Logistics Supplier
During the same operation, soldiers arrested a suspected bandit supplier, Sunday Adedotun, from Odo Eri village, Yagba West LGA.
Adedotun claimed he assisted farmers in transporting produce after harvest. Authorities recovered cartons of energy drinks, bottled water, soft drinks, and farm produce at the site. He is currently in custody and under investigation.

The 12 Brigade Nigerian Army emphasized that the operations reflect continued efforts to suppress criminal activities and disrupt bandit networks in the area.
Brig.-Gen. Kasim Sidi, Commander of 12 Brigade, praised the troops for their professionalism and courage, assuring the public that intelligence-driven patrols and ambush operations will continue to ensure safety in Kogi State.
