What started as a routine traffic incident ended in tragedy on a major Malaysian highway after a speeding car crashed into motorists inspecting minor damage.
A minor collision along Malaysia’s Federal Highway escalated into a deadly accident early Tuesday morning, leaving two people dead and several others injured after a Mercedes-Benz slammed into the crash site.
Initial Collision on Federal Highway

The incident occurred at about 4.20am on January 20 along the Federal Highway heading towards Klang. A black Honda HR-V rear-ended a black Proton Suprima, causing both vehicles to stop on the road.
The drivers exited their cars to check the damage. At that moment, traffic continued to flow on the busy divided highway, which has three lanes in each direction.
Police said the Honda was driven by a 50-year-old man who had a female passenger. The Proton was driven by a woman in her 20s.
Mercedes Crashes Into Victims
As the motorists stood on the roadway, a silver Mercedes-Benz approached from behind at high speed. The driver failed to stop in time and ploughed directly into the group.
The impact knocked down three people who were standing on the road. A passing motorcyclist captured the moment on a 33-second video, which later spread widely on social media.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol said investigators believe the Mercedes driver could not avoid the victims who were standing in the lane.
Two Killed at the Scene
The driver and passenger of the Honda died instantly due to severe head and body injuries. Authorities later confirmed that the two victims were friends.
The Proton driver and the Mercedes driver survived the crash but sustained serious injuries. Emergency responders rushed both to Shah Alam Hospital for treatment.
Police identified the Mercedes driver as a 31-year-old man who suffered a broken leg.
Investigation Underway
Authorities collected blood and urine samples from the Mercedes driver for chemical testing. Police are currently awaiting the full toxicology report to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
Investigators are also reviewing the viral video footage and examining road conditions at the time of the crash.
Road Safety Concerns Raised
The incident has renewed concerns over roadside safety on high-speed highways. Police have urged motorists involved in accidents to move to safer areas and activate hazard warnings before exiting their vehicles.
Officials reminded drivers to remain alert at all times, especially during early morning hours when visibility may be low and speeds tend to increase.
