Lafia, Nasarawa State – Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, has urged women across Nigeria to take full advantage of the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) e-registration exercise to assert their presence in mainstream politics.
The minister made the call on Saturday while monitoring the registration process in Nasarawa State, highlighting the exercise as a rare opportunity for women, who often feel sidelined, to actively position themselves for leadership and decision-making roles within the party and the nation’s democratic process.
“This is the time for women to come into mainstream party politics. We always say that women have been sidelined, but this is an opportunity to make our voices count,” she said.
Strong Women Participation Observed
Suleiman-Ibrahim expressed excitement at the level of women’s turnout at the registration centres. She noted that women of all age groups, including youths, were actively participating.
“I am proud when I see women across all ages participating. It shows that women are ready to support the growth of the party and to benefit fully from democracy in this country,” she added.
The minister also commended Nasarawa State for its strong performance, describing it as one of the leading states nationwide in membership mobilisation.
Encouraging Wider Participation
Suleiman-Ibrahim challenged women and youths who had not yet participated to register promptly, warning that ignoring the process would leave them with no moral ground to complain about exclusion from political processes.
She further pledged to collaborate with APC state leadership to reward outstanding local governments, polling units, and registration teams with incentives, encouraging healthy competition and wider participation.
“We are here to support you with everything possible to ensure the success of this exercise because President Bola Tinubu, the party at the national level, and our government are fully committed,” she said.
Support and Incentives for Registration
In addition to her advocacy, the minister announced the donation of laptops and cash incentives to support the registration exercise across Nasarawa’s local government areas.
APC state chairman Aliyu Bello thanked the minister for her support, describing her intervention as unprecedented and pivotal to boosting the party’s membership drive in the state.
The APC e-registration exercise aims to expand the party’s membership base ahead of upcoming political engagements, ensuring that more citizens, particularly women and youths, participate in Nigeria’s democratic process.
