Gov Yusuf Defects to APC With 22 State, Nine Federal Lawmakers
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has defected to the All Progressives Congress with 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly and nine members of the House of Representatives.
The governor announced the move on Monday at the Coronation Hall inside the Government House in Kano. Also, he said the decision followed wide consultations with elected officials and key stakeholders across the state.
He said 22 out of 24 members of the Kano State House of Assembly and nine out of 14 members of the House of Representatives agreed to join the APC. Therefore, the group moved to the ruling party.
Governor Yusuf explained that the decision aims to strengthen governance and speed up development in Kano State. He added that the goal is to improve service delivery for residents.
He urged residents to judge the decision by the impact of governance and the benefits delivered to the people. In addition, he said the move promotes partnership over division.
Several APC leaders attended the event. Among them were the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, and former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
The Kano State APC Chairman described the mass defection as a bold step that would strengthen the party in the state. He said APC members would remain loyal to Governor Yusuf.
Senator Barau Jibrin asked his supporters to back the governor and work together for the progress of Kano State. Meanwhile, Abdullahi Ganduje welcomed the governor and the lawmakers into the APC.
Ganduje described Governor Yusuf as a progressive leader and confirmed his leadership role in the party in Kano State. Finally, he said the party stands fully with the governor.
The defection of the governor alongside most state and federal lawmakers is expected to reshape the political landscape in Kano State.
