Egypt Reaffirms Support for Sudan’s Unity and Humanitarian Aid
Egypt has reiterated its strong support for Sudan’s unity, rejecting any moves to divide the country. Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty met with Sudanese counterpart Mohi El-Din Salem to discuss ways to resolve the ongoing crisis.
According to Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, Abdel-Aty emphasized Cairo’s “unwavering position” in protecting Sudan’s territorial integrity and national institutions. He warned against actions that could destabilize the country or weaken its sovereignty.
The minister also condemned the severe atrocities in El Fasher and Kordofan. He called for a humanitarian corridor to deliver aid safely and without delay. Additionally, he urged increased relief support and stronger cooperation with the United Nations, the African Union, and humanitarian agencies.
Abdel-Aty highlighted the need for coordinated regional and international efforts. This includes establishing a sustainable ceasefire and preparing for an inclusive political process. These steps aim to meet the Sudanese people’s goals for security, stability, and development.
He stressed the importance of the Quartet on Sudan. Moreover, he encouraged better coordination among existing initiatives to avoid duplication and improve effectiveness.
The ministers also discussed Egypt’s recent hosting of the fifth Consultative Mechanism for Strengthening and Coordinating Peace Efforts in Sudan. Chaired by Egypt, the meeting aligned regional and international positions. It also aimed to support a humanitarian truce and create conditions for a Sudan-led political solution.
