The former zonal vice chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Ebonyi Central Zone, Mr. Kevin Chukwu, has resigned from the party. He has now joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Alongside him, more than 10,000 supporters also defected. They came from different political parties across Ebonyi State.

The defection ceremony took place in Enyimba Agalegu community. The community is in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state. Party stakeholders, loyalists, and residents attended the event.

While addressing supporters, Chukwu confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter on January 8. He said he handed it to his ward chairman, who acknowledged receipt.

According to him, the decision followed wide consultations. He also cited dissatisfaction with the direction of major political parties.

“Politics is local,” Chukwu said. “You cannot practice politics away from your people.”

He explained that his former political position no longer served his constituents. Therefore, he decided to change direction after listening to their concerns.

In addition, Chukwu said his move aligns with a growing national political shift. He noted that several political figures across Nigeria have also joined the ADC.

He stressed that many Nigerians feel disappointed by repeated unfulfilled promises. As a result, they are now demanding credible leadership and real development.

“We are tired of empty promises,” he said. “We want leaders who will do the right thing and move Nigeria forward.”

However, Chukwu said he has not decided whether to contest any position in the 2027 general elections. For now, his focus remains on rebuilding his political base.

“The priority is to organize my political life,” he stated. “With ADC, I can decide to contest or support others.”

He described the turnout at the event as massive. According to him, many supporters joined voluntarily, without financial inducement.

Chukwu urged Nigerians to embrace what he called a new political circle. He encouraged them to align with parties they believe represent the country’s future.

ADC welcomes defectors

Welcoming the new members, the Ebonyi State chairman of the ADC, Mrs. Jennifer Adibe, expressed excitement over the development.

She said the defectors joined the party after reviewing its manifesto and ideology.

“I am very happy to receive members from PDP, Labour Party, and others,” Adibe said. “They agreed that ADC is the right platform.”

She added that all PDP executive members from Chukwu’s bloc have officially joined the ADC. According to her, the party will fully integrate them.

“This is a coalition,” she said. “We must work together and carry everyone along.”

Adibe emphasized that ADC would avoid parallel structures. Instead, the party would focus on unity and inclusion.

When the event ended, officials presented ADC membership cards to the new members.

The defection is seen as a major boost for the ADC in Ebonyi State. It also strengthens the party’s position ahead of the 2027 elections.
