Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency, known as NISA, has confirmed the killing of eight al Shabaab terrorists during a targeted military operation in the Middle Juba region.
The agency said the raid took place in Bu’aale town’s Arabow area and was carried out with support from international security partners. The mission focused on destroying key facilities used by the militant group to plan and execute attacks.
NISA Targets al Shabaab Bases in Bu’aale
In a statement, NISA said its forces dismantled major sites used by al Shabaab for operations.
According to the agency, the destroyed locations included the group’s so called political and administrative headquarters, an explosives manufacturing site and a propaganda media center.
Troops also hit a training camp and a residence used by al Shabaab instructors. Security officials said these facilities played an important role in preparing fighters and producing weapons.
Operation Weakens Terror Network
NISA explained that the goal of the operation was to reduce the group’s ability to organize attacks against civilians and government forces.
By removing command centers and bomb making locations, authorities believe the strike will limit al Shabaab’s movement and coordination in the Middle Juba region.
Officials added that similar operations will continue in other parts of the country.
al Shabaab Insurgency in Somalia
The al Qaeda linked group has fought the Somali government for more than 16 years. It often targets security forces, public officials and civilians with bombings and armed assaults.
In recent months, Somalia has increased pressure on the group. The Somali army now works closely with the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and other partners to reclaim territory.
International Support for Somalia
Since mid last year, Somali forces have stepped up military action across several regions. The United Nations Security Council renewed the African Union mission’s mandate in December, extending its role in supporting Somalia’s stability.
Officials say international cooperation remains key in weakening al Shabaab’s network.
Conclusion
The killing of eight al Shabaab terrorists in Bu’aale marks another step in Somalia’s fight against militancy. With command centers, training camps and bomb sites destroyed, Somali authorities aim to reduce the group’s ability to threaten civilians and national security.
