President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will leave Abuja on Monday, January 26, for an official state visit to the Republic of Turkey.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the trip in a statement released on Sunday.

The visit aims to strengthen diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Turkey. It will also expand cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.

Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, last visited Nigeria in October 2021. That visit helped deepen ties between both countries.

During the trip, President Tinubu will hold high-level talks with Turkish officials. The discussions will focus on finance, communication, trade, and investment.

Officials from both countries will also meet to sign several Memoranda of Understanding. These agreements will cover scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media, military collaboration, and protocol.

The programme includes a Nigeria–Turkey Business Forum. The forum will bring together investors from both nations to explore business opportunities.

Members of the Nigerian delegation include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi. Others are the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Jimi Benson.

Additional officials on the trip are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, and the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The delegation also includes the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.

President Tinubu will return to Nigeria after the visit.
