Wike Took Political Risk Supporting Tinubu in 2023 – Former LG Chairman
Former Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State, Samuel Nwanosike, says Rivers State is benefiting from a bold move by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Speaking to news outlets, Nwanosike explained that Wike took a political risk by supporting President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections.
He added that since taking office in May 2023, President Tinubu has appointed several indigenes of Rivers State. This has improved the state’s representation and development.
According to Nwanosike, the support has strengthened political loyalty. He said:
“There is no better way to thank a leader who has done so much for Rivers State. Wike foresaw the benefits and supported an APC presidential candidate in 2023. Even before Tinubu completes three years in office, many promises to Rivers people have already been fulfilled. Therefore, in 2027, all eligible voters in Rivers State are expected to vote for President Tinubu.”
Wike Monitors PDP Developments in Oyo State
In addition, Wike has stressed his involvement in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), especially regarding the Oyo State chapter. He said his focus is on the party’s survival and strength.
Speaking at the 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP in Abuja, Wike stated:
“Let me declare my interest clearly: I am focused on the survival and success of this party. I am also monitoring all happenings in Oyo State PDP. That is my priority.”
He also dismissed claims of intimidation against PDP members. Wike referenced recent legal victories by his faction and said:
“Who can intimidate us? By the grace of God, we are unshaken. The legal battle has ended, and the Caretaker Committee must be recognized.”
Background on Oyo PDP Power Struggle
Wike’s remarks refer to disputes in Oyo State PDP after a parallel national convention in November 2025. The convention, conducted by a faction loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, was nullified by the Federal High Court in Ibadan. The court supported the faction that set up a Caretaker Committee for the state
