The UK military support Saudi Arabia plan includes sending Royal Air Force (RAF) jets on defensive air patrols. The United Kingdom announced the move following an increase in missile and drone attacks by the Houthi movement targeting Saudi cities and civilian facilities.
British officials say the air patrols are intended to protect Saudi Arabia and its allies from aerial attacks. They stress that the mission is defensive and is not meant to carry out offensive attacks inside Yemen.
The move shows growing security cooperation between the UK and countries in the Gulf as regional tensions remain high. Britain aims to protect its allies and strengthen its long-standing partnership with Saudi Arabia.

The expanded British support is intended to help Saudi Arabia strengthen its air defences. Saudi Arabia has also reportedly asked countries such as France, Pakistan, and Egypt for help protecting against missile and drone attacks. The growing use of low-cost, long-range drones has created serious security concerns for important facilities across the Arabian Peninsula.
While the UK is increasing its defensive support, other Western countries have taken different approaches. The United States, which has previously led major military operations against the Houthi movement, has followed its own approach based on domestic and foreign policy priorities.
British leaders have stressed that military support alone cannot resolve the crisis. They say a lasting solution requires a political agreement.
The UK military support Saudi Arabia initiative also involves supporting United Nations-led efforts to bring the opposing sides in Yemen together for peace talks. The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen highlights the need for diplomatic efforts to reduce suffering and find a lasting solution.
