Israeli Army Radio has reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz approved new reconstruction projects in an area referred to as Green Rafah. The zone is located in eastern Rafah along the Yellow Line, and it’s under the Israeli military control. According to the report, the land has already been cleared and leveled, and it is currently unoccupied.
According to the broadcast, the Gaza Rafah reconstruction plan are said to include basic infrastructure projects to prepare the site for future housing. These works would include installing electricity, building water networks, laying sewage systems, and carrying out excavation and groundwork. The report added that Palestinian contractors and laborers from Gaza might be involved, provided they pass security checks.

The report further suggested that the site could eventually be managed by a multinational force. Palestinian workers expected to join the project are being screened by Israel’s Shin Bet security agency before entering into areas near the Yellow Line. If approved, construction teams could begin entering the site within weeks.
However, Netanyahu’s office disputed the accuracy of the report Saying that the information was outdated and misleading, clarifying that the project is actually a United Arab Emirates pilot initiative and has been in development for months. They also rejected claims about who would carry out the work, stating that electricity, water, and sewage projects would be supervised by the Israeli military instead of the Gaza contractors.
These conflicting statements have left many details unclear, including the role of Palestinian workers, who will administer the area, and when construction might begin. As a result, the Gaza Rafah reconstruction plan remains uncertain due to conflicting accounts from Israeli media and the prime minister’s office.
Rafah, situated in southern Gaza near Egypt’s border, has suffered heavily from fighting and military operations. Any rebuilding effort there could shape the future of Palestinian housing and movement, especially if new residential districts are created under a different security or administrative framework.
The reported development comes as discussions continue over Gaza’s future governance, security, reconstruction, and the involvement of international actors. For now, the scale of the project, the agencies responsible, and the future status of the area remain uncertain.
