VeryDarkMan Speaks at NBA Conference on Insecurity in Nigeria

Social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan,  explained why he was invited to speak at the 2026 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Port Harcourt.

Speaking as a panellist on Tuesday, VeryDarkMan said he was not invited to teach lawyers about legal matters but to share his experiences covering insecurity in Nigeria.

VeryDarkMan at NBA conference, spoke about the growing problem of insecurity and attacks affecting ordinary Nigerians, including members of the judiciary. He mentioned the case of a judge who was kidnapped in Kebbi on July 26, while travelling from Sokoto State and was released about a week later. He also criticized the media for not giving enough attention to killings and attacks carried out by armed groups.

 

VeryDarkMan also discussed the June 13, 2025, attack on Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State,  where more than 200 people were reportedly killed and property was destroyed.

He mentioned that he was among the first responders at Yelwata and claimed that the attack was carried out by Fulani attackers as a retaliation for the killing of a Fulani boy. A witness at the Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier testified that some Fulani chiefs sponsored armed men to carry out the attack.

 

VeryDarkMan at NBA conference, he used his platform to draw attention to insecurity, the risks faced by members of the judiciary and what he described as poor media coverage of violent incidents in Nigeria.
