An Osogbo cheap food shop scam has left many residents in Osun State worried after a food business in the Odi-Olowo area suddenly closed.
The shop attracted many customers by selling basic food items at prices much lower than normal market prices. Many people paid large amounts of money for bulk orders of rice, vegetable oil, spaghetti, and semovita.
However, when customers returned to collect their food, they found the shop locked. They were also unable to reach the people running the business.

As news of the closure spread, hundreds of angry residents gathered outside the shop, demanding answers and asking for their money back. Tension increased as more people arrived, leading to calls for the police to prevent damage to property and keep the situation under control.
Police authorities sent six trucks carrying armed officers to the area. The officers secured the shop, tried to calm the affected customers, and helped control traffic around Odi-Olowo.
Some social media users and financial fraud analysts compared the Osogbo cheap food shop scam to a similar case reported in Kano State the previous year. In that case, a discount food scheme reportedly collected more than ₦1 billion from residents before the operators disappeared.
The incident has led to calls for people to be careful when buying goods from businesses offering prices far below normal market prices.
