The NYSC members kidnapping suspects arraigned story has reached a new stage, as five suspects appeared in court over the abduction of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. They were arraigned at the Justice Oputa State High Court in Owerri over the kidnapping that occurred on October 1, 2026, along the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway.
The victims were travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to their assigned NYSC orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states when they were reportedly attacked near Umunoha. After days of uncertainty, security operatives rescued them from a forest hideout in Amakohia-Ubi on October 7. The corps members later underwent medical checks.
The arrest of the suspects followed a search operation led by the Department of State Services (DSS), with support from the Nigerian military and police. Using intelligence information, security operatives tracked and arrested the suspects in Rivers and Abia states between October 10 and 14.
