Court Nullifies David Mark-Led ADC Leadership and Atiku’s Candidacy

Court nullifies David Mark ADC leadership as Federal High Court ruling raises questions about the party’s leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.

The court nullifies David Mark ADC leadership ruling has attracted attention across Nigeria. Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered the judgment. The ruling is an important development for the ADC as the party prepares for the 2027 elections. The court cancelled all decisions made by the caretaker committee led by former Senate President David Mark. The decision has also raised questions about who will lead the party.

The case followed a lawsuit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former National Deputy Chairman (North-East) of the ADC. In the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025, Gombe challenged the process that brought Senator David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola into the party’s leadership. David Mark became the National Chairman, while Aregbesola became the National Secretary after the resignation of former chairman, Chief Ralph Nwosu.

In his ruling on the court nullifies David Mark ADC leadership case, Justice Lifu agreed with the plaintiff that the process that brought David Mark’s team into the ADC leadership did not follow the party’s constitution or the Electoral Act. As a result, the court declared all decisions made by the team invalid.

The court removed David Mark’s leadership team, cancelled the primary election that produced Atiku Abubakar as the ADC’s presidential candidate and agreed that Nafiu Bala Gombe had the right to challenge the party’s leadership process.

The court nullifies David Mark ADC leadership ruling has created fresh uncertainty for Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election. He had chosen the ADC as his political platform, with former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate. Following the court’s decision to cancel the primary election, the ADC must now resolve its leadership dispute and clarify the position of its candidates.

The ADC has rejected the court’s decision and says it will appeal the ruling. The party’s National Welfare Secretary, Nkemakolam Ukandu, said the party disagrees with the judgment. Its legal team plans to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal to defend its leadership structure and the position of its candidates.
