Troops from the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have rescued 14 kidnapped victims in Kogi State following offensive operations against terrorists hiding in forest enclaves near Lokoja.

The rescue occurred after a successful assault on a suspected terrorist hideout at Batijjo’s camp in the Adonkolo/Kakanda Forest, where soldiers engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to abandon the camp.

Weapons and Documents Recovered

During the operation, the army recovered:

  • Weapons and ammunition

  • Military and police camouflage

  • Documents, including a foreign passport

A military source noted that these seizures weakened the operational strength of the terrorist group.

Notable Rescues

One of the rescued victims was a serving soldier who had been abducted while traveling from Abeokuta to Zaria. All rescued individuals were stabilized and treated by military medical teams after the operation.

Troops also launched a follow-up ambush at Tajimi, engaging a fleeing terrorist who abandoned his motorcycle. The vehicle was recovered for intelligence purposes.

In addition, the army responded to another kidnapping along the Okene-Onyukoko road, rescuing seven escapees. Search-and-rescue operations continue for remaining victims.

Army’s Commitment to Security

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring security across Kogi State and neighboring areas.
