NiDCOM condemns killing of Nigerian in India over romantic dispute
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has condemned the killing of a Nigerian citizen, Mr. Emeka Christian, in Pune, India, describing the incident as tragic and avoidable.
According to a statement released on Saturday by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Mr. Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the victim allegedly died after two fellow Nigerians attacked him during a romantic dispute. The suspects were identified as Mr. Chukwudi Okafor, 31, and Mr. Samuel Eze.
NiDCOM expressed deep sorrow over the incident. It also extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. The commission stressed that no family deserves such a painful loss.
Furthermore, NiDCOM called on Indian authorities to conduct a full and transparent investigation. It urged them to ensure that justice is served promptly.
Meanwhile, the commission advised Nigerians living abroad to avoid violence and resolve conflicts peacefully. It emphasized dialogue as the best way to settle disagreements.
Reacting to the incident, NiDCOM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said Nigerians must respect the laws of their host countries. She added that citizens should reject violence at all times, regardless of circumstances.
In addition, NiDCOM reminded Nigerians in the diaspora that their actions affect the country’s image. Therefore, it urged them to act responsibly and promote unity wherever they live.
“Violence has no place among us,” the commission stated. “Together, we can build a stronger and more positive Nigerian diaspora community.”
