Lafarge Africa Expands Sagamu and Ashaka Cement Plants to Support Nigeria Infrastructure

Lafarge Africa Plc has confirmed plans to expand its Sagamu Cement Plant in Ogun State and Ashaka Cement Plant in Gombe State. The expansion will help increase local cement supply and support Nigeria’s growing infrastructure needs.

According to a filing submitted to the Nigerian Exchange Limited, the company will build modern dry process plants at both locations. These facilities will use preheater kilns, vertical raw mills, and roller presses. As a result, Lafarge Africa aims to improve energy efficiency and production output.

Production Capacity to Increase by 5.5 Million Tonnes

The expansion will raise production capacity at the Ashaka plant by two million metric tonnes per year. In addition, the Sagamu plant will add 3.5 million metric tonnes annually. Together, both projects will contribute 5.5 million metric tonnes to Lafarge Africa’s cement output.

Because of this increase, customers across major markets can expect better product availability. The company also plans to respond faster to demand from housing, commercial, and infrastructure projects.

Expansion Reflects Long Term Confidence in Nigeria

This development follows the acquisition of a majority stake in Lafarge Africa by Huaxin Building Materials Group. The move signals continued confidence in Nigeria’s construction and economic growth.

Beyond increasing capacity, the company said the projects will support sustainability goals. They will also strengthen supply chains and promote economic activity in host communities.

Focus on Infrastructure and Job Creation

Lafarge Africa explained that the expansion will support critical sectors such as housing and public infrastructure. At the same time, the projects will improve operational efficiency and environmental performance.

Furthermore, the company reaffirmed its commitment to transparent engagement with stakeholders. It also stated that it will maintain strict oversight during project execution.
