The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects linked to the killing of a housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano. The incident has caused deep shock across the state due to the scale of the crime.
Police carried out the arrests during a planned sting operation late on January 17 and early on January 18, 2026. The operation followed intelligence gathered from earlier inquiries.
Suspects Arrested in the Kano Murder Case
Police identified the suspects as:
Umar Auwalu, 23, a nephew of the deceased and believed to have led the group
Isyaku Yakubu, 40
Yakubu Abdulaziz, 21
Officers arrested the suspects without resistance. Afterward, police moved them to custody for further questioning.
Confession and Evidence Recovered
According to the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the suspects admitted their role in the killings. They also confessed to involvement in other violent attacks in the area.
During the operation, police recovered several items connected to the crime. These items include four blood stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club, and cash believed to have been taken from the house.
Police have secured all recovered items as evidence to support the investigation.
Investigation Continues
Meanwhile, the police continue to investigate the case. They aim to understand how the crime occurred and to track down other possible accomplices.
CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa praised the officers involved for their commitment and teamwork. He assured residents that the Kano State Police Command remains focused on justice and public safety.
In addition, the police urged the public to stay calm and share useful information that can help prevent future crimes.
